hello!

My name is Jasmin, and I created this website as a virtual shoebox to store my academic ramblings and niche interests. 

I named it pulcherrima for two reasons. First, naming it after myself felt a bit much. Second, pulcherrima means “most beautiful” in Latin—a fitting phrase for how I like to approach the topics I study. Researching art and design inevitably branches into cultural, racial, gender, political, and economic terrains, and each discovery feels beautiful in its own way. Beauty transcends taste, class, and form; it refuses to be contained in a single category. 

It may be silly to analyze how Strawberry Shortcake’s scent ties into feminine odour paranoia, or to examine the Arab-American experience through a ceramic Marlboro mihrab, yet we slowly begin to uncover those strange, beautiful synchronicities that bind our world together.
